After being challenged to build a bridge that was long, wide and strong enough to hold the Billy Goats the children were set a new challenge! We watched a short presentation about the ten tallest buildings in the world and were set the task of seeing who could build the tallest tower!
The tricky part was that we could only use ten straws and tape! We thought about how we would make our tower stand upright - what shape base would we use? How would we prevent our tower from falling over?
While we waited for a few students to finish their towers we read ‘Paddington at the Tower’ book and looked at the Tower Bridge. We watched a clip of how Tower Bridge is both a tower and a bridge and how ships can travel under it. We sang London Bridge is falling down!
When all the students had all completed their towers we compared who had the tallest tower. Ken was our winner with the tallest and sturdiest tower! We reflected on how we could make our towers sturdier so they didn’t fall over and how we might be able to make them even taller.
