EY Rotation learning

This week the EY classes got together to explore learning engagements connected to our units of inquiry, How we organise ourselves and How the world works.

Spider web design - Ms. Elaine

After reading The Very busy Spider, by Eric Carl, and a short clip on viewing how a real spider builds web and showing how strong web really are, the children were challenged to design their own spider web while thinking about the possible shapes they might use in their design.

'Who Sank the Boat?' - Ms. Karyn

We watched a short story called “Who Sank the Boat?”. We thought about what a boat needs to be able to do float!

We were set the challenge of constructing a boat using only tinfoil and four straws to carry some animals just like in the story.

After creating their tin foil boats, the children tested them out to see who would sink their boat! Some boats managed to stay afloat even with lots of animals aboard! We thought about the shape and size of our boats and how this may have helped us.

Teepees - Ms. Helen

With a photo as a prompt, the children constructed their own mini teepee using wooden sticks, rubber bands, and playdough.

Stacking Towers - Ms Henny

The children were challenged to build a tall tower using blocks, lollipop sticks and cups. Each child was only allowed 20 items. Some children quickly noticed, that by putting their resources together they could build an even bigger tower. Great thinking!

  1. Anna has been doing lots of sink/float experiments at home! She likes to make it into a game with the family. She has also been using various toys (such as legos) at home to build different types of towers. It's fun to see her creativity at work!
